Before I spent a year in Germany studying abroad, my dad moved me to his T-Mobile phone plan from AT&T so I could have his international phone coverage. This was the best decision and it’s also the reason Danny and I opened up our own phone plan with T-Mobile. T-Mobile is the best phone plan for international travel.
Any country we have ever visited (15+), we have had cell service and internet. This can range from countries in Europe to an island in the Caribbean. It may not always be the fastest internet, but it’s still worth it. Calls are usually around 20 cents a minute, with unlimited data and text messaging. If the WiFi is decent, you can use WiFi calling. WiFi calling is the ability to call free through WiFi.
With T-Mobile, you have access to service in 210+ destinations. They have different plans depending on if you want to update your internet speed. When we were planning our trip to Asia this past spring, I checked out the T-Mobile website to be sure of our coverage in the countries we would be visiting.
T-Mobile also has a Magenta plan that will allow you to make calls and send texts from various cruise lines. But for a frequent flyer like myself, my favorite part is on Gogo-enabled flights. I receive an hour of WiFi and unlimited texting which comes in handy on longer flights.
