Google Flights is a great tool once you get the hang of it. It’s what we use to find flexibility and the best prices for our trips.
Searching for flights
Enter in your home airport and your destination airport and you can search to find the cheapest days to fly. It’s also helpful to use your surrounding airports to get an idea of the best price. For example, we live closest to Greenville (GSP) but depending on where we go, it may be cheaper to fly out of Charlotte (CLT) or Asheville (AVL).
If I choose February 6th as my starting date, I can see the prices for available days on when I’d like to return.
Let’s say I’d like to choose United leaving at 3 pm. Once I click it I can choose my return flight. I would also choose United so I can book through one airline and not multiple. I can then either track those prices and receive emails to my Gmail account when there are any price changes or click Book With United and it takes me directly to United’s website to book.
If you are unsure of where you want to go but have availability, you can always type in your home airport, your dates for your trip and leave the destination field blank. Google Flights will figure out the prices for trips to various destinations during that time frame. Recently, I started using this as a tool for long weekend trips to travel the U.S. since most of the destinations given are within just a few hours of my home airport. Be sure to check out other airports around as well!
