I’ve wanted to go to Grand Cayman for as long as I can remember. I’ve seen so many beautiful photos and I wanted to see it with my own eyes. When we were trying to decide on where to visit over our long weekend break, Grand Cayman was on top of the list. Here are 3 things you shouldn’t skip in Grand Cayman.
Fun
Royal Palms Beach Club
Unless you’re staying directly on 7 Mile Beach, we found it hard to get onto the beach. After a quick Google search, we came across the Royal Palms Beach Club. This beach club was amazing! We lucked out on a day there were no cruises in port and the beach club was deserted with only a few couples here and there. In fact, when we arrived, we had to ask if they were open to which we were greeted and told to grab a chair and enjoy ourselves.
Royal Palms has multiple pools, one with a swim-up bar, a regular bar area, a private beach, and pool cabanas, beach chairs, and umbrellas are also available for rent, along with a restaurant.
Entering Royal Palms is only a 5 dollar entrance fee and we went multiple times. It was the perfect place to relax.

Food
Sunshine Grill
This restaurant is tucked away in the middle of a hotel, but I promise it’s worth it. We tried it for both breakfast and lunch!
First, let’s talk about lunch. We love recommendations when trying new places and the recommendation for our appetizer did not disappoint. Their Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls were everything. Jerk chicken with cabbage, mango chutney and topped with jerk seasoning is served with an Asian peanut sauce and Cayman jerk mayo dipping sauce. My mouth waters just thinking about it.
For our meal, Danny tried the Tres Tacos which comes with one of their “world-famous” island fish taco, a gourmet shrimp taco, and a Cuban chicken taco. I tried their Memphis BBQ sliders which were delicious.
When we went for breakfast, I had the pancakes which were huge! I couldn’t even finish both of them. Danny ordered the Monterey Tacos which are scrambled eggs, roasted chicken, black beans, onions, cream cheese, jack cheese, cilantro, and green chili sauce that comes wrapped in tortillas and served with home fries, pico de gallo, homemade salsa and black beans.

Experience
Bioluminescent Tour
If you’re lucky enough to visit Grand Cayman when you can do a bioluminescent tour, you absolutely should! When you stir up the water, plankton produces light by releasing energy from chemical reactions inside or outside their body.
The only way worth experiencing this is by actually jumping in the water. The tour group we went with provided life vests to keep you afloat. You should not kick your feet once you enter the water. What sea creature eats plankton? Jellyfish. Multiple members of our tour were stung so only move your arms as need to move around to keep you and those around you from being stung.
There are plenty of tour groups depending on the experience you want. Are you just along for the ride, or do you want dinner on the boat too? It’s up to you.
Did you know you can’t get stung by a jellyfish on the palm of your hand? The barbs can’t penetrate our palms or the soles of our feet. Danny tested this theory with our tour group on the boat.
Education
Driving on the left is common. It took Danny a few tries when it came to using the blinker vs the windshield wipers.
There are 3 Cayman Islands. Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman while Grand Cayman is the largest of the three.
Grand Cayman is pricey. Be prepared for normal meals at restaurants to be a bit expensive.
Other recommendations:
- Stingray City is a cool experience. You travel by boat for a few minutes until you hit a crystal clear white sandbar where friendly stingrays come to visit.
- Look for starfish at starfish point. It’s located on the north side of the island. We visited first thing in the morning and it was empty. We brought our snorkel gear and saw so many starfish. While it is fine to hold the starfish, do not take them out of the water as they suffocate.
